I get two of these attending home and i affection them. The picture is not the greatest, but Panasonic BL-C131A is good enough. You can still read a car’s approve plate or recognize a person’s confront from the images. What i like about them is how unconstrained they are to monitor and check remotely, how they email images when they detect motion, and how affordable they are. The cameras are very reliable. I get had one for almost a year and it has never stopped working or lost relationship or anything like that.

I get them both inside, facing the outside at the hand of a glass window, one facing the front yard and the other one facing the back yard. I use a mini “spider” tripot to hang them upon the window. I get the sound turned away upon both. I get the motion detection turn upon. They fling me emails with images when they detect motion. I get an email account created exclusively for this. They do not get night vision, but that is not a problem for me since i also get motion lights in the front and back of the house. The images and video are recorded upon the memory confidential the camera, and it can be overwritten when the camera runs out of memory space, but i get the images emailed to me so i still grow those images that grow overwritten in the camera.

Each camera comes with a web based software that allows you to monitor and check the camera. Panasonic offers a free service that allows me to monitor multiple cameras attending the changeless time remotely, using internet explorer. The firstly thing i do when i grow to work is log upon to this service so that i can monitor my home front and back from work. Each camera is password protected. So nobody can entrance your cameras still if they know the url, unless they also know the user id and password.

The only problem i see with this camera is that the software uses activex controls. So the software works only with internet explorer and i don’t think it will work with other web browsers such as firefox. This is not a problem for me since i don’t mind using ie, but i can see where this might bother other people. Other than this, i highly recommend this camera.

I just purchased this canon on a whim, earlier today position of best buy. I have been tinkering withy it for the bulk of the evening. My previous sd300 is still working equal a champ, however i have been considering a film camera for some time…after some peering position of the film camera counter i wandered overhead to the point and shoot table… so far as initially drew me in to the sd780is was its appearance on the display stand. The sleek matte-black body is very eye-pleasing…then i looked position of the specs. and realized that it shoots film in hd! (1280×720) in addition all the other attributes made me realize that it was time to update my “everywhere, anytime” camera.
I proceeded to check out some of the other canon sd cameras. The sd960 became the other candidate…it has a little more glass(4x)zoom, overhead the sd780’s (3x)zoom. The sd960 has an appealing f2.8 apeture overhead the sd780’s f3.2. The sd960’s screen is more tailored for the hd film capture as it has a 16:9 proportion lcd panel. (kinda nice for instant viewing on the camera)
After some thought i went withy the sd780 for the indicated reasons:

1. The hd film capability is outstanding and comparible withy the sd960. It has a hdmi jack. The traditional 4:3 screen does no, non- bother me, because the film is ultimately going to be viewed on a hd tv.(there will be an upper and lower bar on 16:9 playback through the sd780’s lcd).

2.the weaker 3x zoom is no, non- a big deal as this camera is for general shooting(out w/ freinds, bars, random teatime position of the beach, mountain biking, etc.)And withy this camera easliy fitting in my denim scoop or camelbak, the portability is so far as gives me the opportunity to document these moments, that would otherwise be missed. The sd960 is a little bulkier(but still small). I do also shoot withy a canon 40d, accompanied withy l optics, only the weight and bulkiness do no, non- lend to certain shooting circumstances. (as mentined above)

3. The user interface on the sd780is is equal maximum (if no, non- all?) Preceeding sd cameras. while there is no, non- much control in the way of shooting settings, feature buttons equal flash override, ae lock, af lock, and exposure compensation are present on the camera body. The sd960is has two buttons and a jog wheel, which lend to swims in the menu. I’m sure the new interface on the 960 is intuitive, only i liked the 780 due to its similarity to my old sd300.

I am very merry withy the results produced thus far withy the Canon PowerShot SD780IS. The hd film is excellant, however it should be admitted that once recording you can only zoom digitally. unhappy light cabilities and sound in film mode are excellent. The stills i have taken look great. Also, to the budget-minded who are upgrading from older digital point-and-shoots, a class 4 minimum 4gb or 8gb sdhc card would be well suited due to the demanding memory of the 12.1 million pixels, and hd film. Also, maximum old card readers will no, non- process the the sdhc cards so you may have to purchase a new card reader as well.
